The Mountain History Festival is calling for applications for young researchers

Following a successful inaugural edition in April 2025 titled “Experiences,” the Mountain History Festival is preparing its second edition, “The Healing Mountain,” which will take place in Grenoble and its metropolitan area from April 9 to 11, 2027.

Initiated by the Department of Isère and the Musée Dauphinois, this biennial event explores the history of the mountains and their future: “Focusing primarily on the Alpine arc, it highlights the value of a comparative approach through a broader study of other high-altitude regions around the globe.”

The Festival will award a prize to a French-language research project at the master’s level (with a grade of “Very Good”) focusing on the history of Alpine societies, from the earliest settlements to the most recent periods. Applications must consist of a text (maximum 30 lines) outlining the research topic and motivation, and must be submitted to the Musée dauphinois (musee-dauphinois@isere.fr) by September 30, 2026. The research must have been defended during the 2021–2026 period.

The event is organized in partnership with the University of Grenoble, the Rhône-Alpes Historical Research Laboratory (Larhra)—a member of Labex ITTEM—, Glénat Publishing, the International Association for the History of the Alps, and the Petzl Foundation.
