The 6th Mountain Research School, a doctoral summer school at the heart of mountain territories, will be organized from August 23 to 28, 2026 by Labex ITTEM, OSUG and Architectures. It will take place in the Écrins massif around the Jardin du Lautaret.
The Mountain Research School (MRS) is a place for doctoral training in interdisciplinarity between human and social sciences and earth and environmental sciences in mountain areas. This year, participants will examine the interactions between human societies and environments, with a particular focus on biodiversity and high-altitude lakes.
This summer school is an opportunity for PhD students to step back from their disciplinary approaches and consider how they fit into the general ecosystem of mountain research, in conjunction with other socio-economic players working in these areas.
At the crossroads of the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Earth and Environmental Sciences, the MRS is aimed primarily at PhD students from Labex partner units ITTEM, OSUG and Architectures. However, it is open to all PhD students whose research topic has a direct link with mountains. It may be recognized as part of the doctoral training program. The Labexes cover the costs of supervision, accommodation and meals, with the exception of transport to Grenoble (departure by minibus from Grenoble) for participants located within the perimeter of the three Labexes concerned. With a view to collaborative research, the Mountain Research School contributes to the e Lter Ri platform – European Ecosystem Research Infrastructure.
Pre-registration is open until May 19, 2026 on the Labex Osug website.
