Labex ITTEM at the Dubai World Expo

The Connecting Youth and Mountains, Creating a lively Future conference will be held on October 8 in the Italian pavilion at the Dubai World Expo (October^1, 2021 – March 31, 2022) to coincide with the week dedicated to climate and biodiversity. The event will focus on the need to promote new models of sustainable development for mountain areas.

Invited by the University of Milan’s Unimont cluster, Raffaella Balzarini, in charge of international relations and scientific promotion at Labex ITTEM, will be presenting the^1st Mountain Research School, organized from June 28 to July 2, at the conference, which will include a section on the role of research.

She will be speaking alongside several key international players in sustainable development and transition strategies for mountain regions, including the Network for European mountain research(Nemor), the Euromontana association and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations(FAO).

The conference, which will place Italy’s mountains at the heart of a number of initiatives, will be broadcast live at www.youtube.com/c/ItalyExpo2020 and will then be available for replay (Raffaella Balzarini’s speech starts at 42’40”).

The conference will also be the occasion for the presentation of the Manifesto [PDF] “Mountain Education and Innovation”, the result of a consultation with some one hundred young people from 28 countries, as part of the Youth4Mountains program.
