When the mountains get political
On January 17, 2024, Grenoble University’s Pacte human and social sciences laboratory is organizing a seminar on migration, tourism and accommodation: when mountains become political.
The seminar, held at Sciences-Po Grenoble, will focus on three themes that are central to the work of three researchers from the Pacte laboratory, members of Labex ITTEM: Philippe Bourdeau, Cristina Del Biaggio and Sarah Bachellerie.
“The Pacte laboratory has a long tradition of research into mountain areas. These research practices have also been transformed to open up and make room for different types of stakeholders who are now involved at different stages of the research. There’s no shortage of issues at stake, from the ecological crisis to changes in tourism and mountain sports, from accommodation to border control policies. The research participants, methods and results are equally diverse.
How can participatory research be carried out in the mountains, when it becomes political? This is the question this inter-disciplinary seminar session, moderated by Simon Persico, will attempt to answer.
The seminar will be broadcast on Zoom
