On October 21 and 22, 2021, Labex ITTEM and the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche sur la montagne (Cirm) jointly organized an international seminar in Sion, on the campus of the University of Lausanne, aimed at understanding how inter- and transdisciplinary research can contribute to the sustainability of mountain regions.

This seminar recently led to the publication of a scientific article (in English) in the Revue de géographie alpine, entitled Transforming mountains through inter- and transdisciplinary research? A workshop to trigger networking on an urgent topic for sustainability.

Lead author Raffaella Balzarini, a member of the Labex team, was co-organizer of the event. Alongside her, several Cirm and Labex researchers contributed to the writing of this publication: Iago Otero (Cirm), Carine Pachoud (Labex), Bastien Bornet (Cirm), Emmanuel Reynard (Cirm) and Philippe Bourdeau (Labex).

The discussions initiated by participants at the Sion seminar will continue at the International Mountain Conference in Innsbruck, September 11-15, 2022, during the session ” Mapping transdisciplinary practices in mountain regions “.
