Risks and climate change in the mountains

The conference entitled “Mountain Territories Faced with Risks and Climate Change: Challenges, Approaches and Perspectives” will be held online from July 6 to 8.

Organized as part of the CoRestart project – whose aim is to help Alpine territories cope with natural hazards in a context of climate change – the symposium will bring together researchers and stakeholders from these territories to discuss complex and intertwined issues:

  • Climate change and its multiple impacts: natural hazards, snow-related tourism activities, tourist demand for more environmentally-friendly leisure activities, new expectations from local residents…
  • The injunction to citizen participation, which questions the disengagement of public authorities in favor of self-organization, and places the responsibility for better management of resources and safety on individuals.
  • The decline in subsidies paid to local authorities, which contrasts with the increased transfer of competencies in recent years, further mortgaging the possibilities of “softer” development strategies.

These issues will be addressed under three headings: raising public awareness of major risks; vulnerabilities and the socio-economic transition of mountain regions; and a final cross-cutting theme focusing on the practice of research. Workshops and discussion sessions will be complemented by the presentation of scientific posters, awareness-raising tools and film screenings.

Several researchers from Labex ITTEM, a partner of the event, will be taking part, including Amélie Coulbaut-Lazzarini, in connection with her project on ” Communication and human-environment interactions “, Marc Langenbach on the theme of recreational practices in the mountains, and Emmanuelle George on adaptation strategies for resorts.
