Nature, heritage and tourism at Fort de Tamié – An Alpine territory in transition

Début du projet : 2024

Students in the Master’s program in Applied History, Society, Environment and Territory at Grenoble Alpes University, set off to meet the people involved in Fort de Tamié and its surroundings, in the Bauges region, to understand its past trajectory and its adaptation to the challenges of transition.

The educational aim of the project is to study the mountain territory of Fort de Tamié (Savoie) over the long term, from its monastic development to the conversion of the Sambuy resort.

Between Savoie and Haute-Savoie, this mid-mountain site combines several dimensions: ancient occupation (Tamié monastery), mobility (Tamié pass), defense and border issues (Tamié fort) and traditional rural activities that are constantly adapting (livestock, cheese, forests…), particularly in the context of global warming and the presence of the wolf. Today, the tourism issue has been added to the equation, imposing strategic choices.

Immersed in the field, the students meet the players involved (elected representatives, associations, entrepreneurs, etc.) through visits, workshops, lectures, round-table discussions, interviews and landscape readings.

Partners involved in the project: Olivier Cartier-Moulin, (manager of Fort de Tamié), Frère Victor (Abbaye de Tamié), Jérôme Daviet (PNR Massif des Bauges), Jacques Depeyre (Glaces n’ Cows), Ludovic Bertagnolo (Maison du tourisme d’Albertville).
