Local currency, mountains and multidisciplinarity

16

The workshop runs throughout the academic year for students in UGA’s Applied Human Sciences degree program. In partnership with Labex ITTEM, for the past three years it has addressed themes linked to mountain territories. Thanks to its global, cross-disciplinary nature and the multidisciplinary approaches developed by the workshop’s organizers, the mountain theme is particularly well-suited to this approach.

This year’s theme is alternative currencies in mountain areas, in this case the Cairn. The local currency/mountain combination will serve as a gateway to questions linked to the local economy, the mountain economy, short circuits and the promotion of mountain tourism.

The workshop relies on an original pedagogical device, the collaborative workshop, offering students varied interactions with different protagonists: specialists in geography, history and philosophy, communication designers, or journalists, to build editorial enunciation and concretize the cross-disciplinary approach.

The implementation and animation by students of a digital platform for remote collaborative work (Slack.com) facilitates exchanges, information sharing and project follow-up.

The workshop was commissioned by Olivier Truche, promoter of the Cairn, and involves the network of volunteer activists committed to developing the currency. It benefits from logistical and pedagogical support (creativity and animation techniques) from UGA’s Promising program.
