Girose: exposing the sensitive side of the glacier

To mark the publication of the book Glacier de la Girose, versant sensible written by the Rimaye collective, an exhibition of watercolors is being organized by the Grenoble Observatoire des sciences de l’Univers from December 10, 2024 to March 7, 2025.

This initiative by the Observatoire des sciences de l’Univers de Grenoble (Osug) will showcase a series of watercolors created by climber Philippe Mussatto on the Girose glacier in the Écrins massif, at an altitude of over 3,000 meters, some of which illustrate the book to be published on December 2.

The exhibition will be the starting point for the discussions that this collective book aims to generate on the controversial project to build a third section of cable car on this glacier overlooking the village of La Grave in the Hautes-Alpes.

A mix of scientific and personal contributions on the glacier, the book presents 15 accounts by researchers from a wide range of disciplines in the humanities and life and earth sciences.

The authors, from Grenoble Alpes and Savoie Mont Blanc universities, CNRS and Inrae, will be on hand at the exhibition opening on December 10, 2024 to open discussions with students. The book’s publisher will also be present.

A presentation of the book also took place on November 13, 2024 at Grenoble’s Maison du Tourisme as part of the Demain les montagnes Festival, with Xavier Bodin, Mikaël Chambru and Sébastien Lavergne.
