What is “last chance tourism” doing to glaciers?

Traveling tens of thousands of kilometers to see a glacier that we know is threatened, even doomed, by global warming… What should we think of “last chance tourism”?

In a video produced by theObservatoire des Sciences de l’Univers de Grenoble, Emmanuel Salim, from the Edytem laboratory at the Université Savoie Mont Blanc, looks at the impact of this practice through the prism of glacier tourism, the subject of his thesis co-sponsored by Labex ITTEM. An analysis of tourist behavior on Chamonix’s Mer de Glace illustrates this paradoxical practice.
