The Master Stratégies Économiques du Sport et du Tourisme (SEST) at UGA’s Faculty of Economics trains professionals at the interface of sport and tourism. This field workshop will involve students in the construction and analysis of a recreational and territorial issue, in interaction with players from the local socio-economic fabric, in a mountain region. It will help strengthen the links between the University, Labex ITTEM and local communities.

The Col de Marcieu ski resort (1066 m) is located in the Grésivaudan valley, on the eastern slopes of the Chartreuse massif, within the territory of the new Plateau des Petites Roches commune and within the perimeter of the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park. A renowned climatic resort since the 1930s, the Plateau des Petites Roches saw the development of skiing in the 1970s at the St-Hilaire and Col de Marcieu sites.

Climate change since the middle of the last century has had a profound impact on the economic model of these low-altitude resorts. Col de Marcieu has embarked on a “4-season” snow/off-snow dynamic, and now offers 7 snow activities and 10 off-snow activities.

The aim of the “Col de Marcieu: tourism diversification in a mid-mountain metropolitan resort through the prism of economic and territorial development” field workshop is to take an economic and territorial approach to the tourism diversification process implemented at Col de Marcieu, mainly in its winter configuration.

Surveys will look at how users use this space and the activities on offer, as well as the tourism offer and the interplay of the various players involved.
