Raciine-M – Understanding and describing mountain biodiversity at school

Début du projet : 2026

The aim of the project is to co-design a teaching aid to help elementary school teachers raise their pupils’ awareness of local biodiversity, while developing their oral and written production skills. This exploratory approach – based on the idea that we take better account of what we know how to observe and put into words – involves researchers in ecology and linguistics, an illustrator, and professionals from the school field.

RaciiineMRaconter la biodiversité des arbres, imaginer et intégrer la nature en montagne – is an interdisciplinary research-action-creation project combining the fields of language, French didactics and knowledge of nature – particularly the forest – in a rural mountain environment. Based on the observation that there is a lack of teaching resources in elementary schools, this project is designed with a dual ambition: to help teachers develop their pupils’ oral and written skills, and to raise their awareness of the biodiversity that surrounds them in their immediate environment, whether urban or rural. These are all priority objectives in the French education system’s curricula.

The project, led by Yoan Paillet with sociolinguist Laurence Buson (Lidilem laboratory), is being carried out in collaboration with an illustrator specializing in the representation of nature, and teachers and educational advisors, to co-design the resource and test it in elementary schools in rural areas. The project will enable children to mobilize their imagination and language skills, and to build up their knowledge of ordinary biodiversity, during walks and observations in nearby nature, and thanks to adapted and modular visual aids.
