Presentation

I study language variation as a geographical phenomenon. To better understand and represent the problem of linguistic diversity and its evolution, I combine a cartographic and historical approach with a field survey fed by in situ observations and interviews.

Research domain

Following on from my thesis - Mapping Other and Self: Space, Language, and Identity in the Modern European Geographical Imagination of Central Asia - and my research at the Institut d'urbanisme et de géographie alpine on borders and place names, this year's investigation will focus on how people appropriate toponyms relating to mountain environments, landscapes and ways of life.
