In its January 5, 2022 issue, the online magazine The Conversation published an article by Mikaël Chambru – a researcher at the Gresec laboratory – entitled “Extinction Rebellion in La Clusaz, when the ZAD conquers the mountains”.

In it, he looks back at the ongoing controversy surrounding a project to build a hillside reservoir, and the issues it raises: water resources, global warming and transition issues.

Behind this conflict lies another issue: the future of mountain regions and their identities. It bears witness to the tensions generated by the challenges facing the mountains, and reminds us that “transition” towards greater sustainability is a concept with a false air of consensus. Even in a town like La Clusaz, which has chosen to change its economic model by gradually moving away from an all-ski, all-tourism approach,” writes Mikaël Chambru.
