Écrins: 50 years of science in the heart of the Park

Created in 1973, the Écrins National Park is the fifth of its kind to emerge in France. As part of its 50th anniversary, faithful to its original ambitions of associating its missions with the work of scientists, it is organizing the Écrins terre de science event from May 24 and throughout the summer, at which several researchers from Labex ITTEM join forces.
Marion Janel, in charge of its organization at the Park, explains the idea behind this initiative : “The Écrins National Park is often associated with tourism and winter and nature sports. Residents and visitors do not necessarily know that it is an area with enormous scientific potential, which is the subject of a lot of research, by Park agents but also by the universities of Grenoble, Chambéry, Marseille, Lyon, Lausanne… and research institutes. The 50th anniversary of the Park comes at the right time to show everyone that science is also part of the territory. »
Different formats of events are planned for these meetings between the general public and scientists: conferences, coffees and science aperitifs, field trips, etc. They will cover the entire territory of the Park, in the valley as well as on the heights, and will combine science of environment and humanities and social.
